Facing an unexpected pregnancy can be scary and overwhelming. Although you may feel alone and helpless in your pregnancy, there is support.  The peer counsellors at First Place OPTIONS care and are trained to help. They can help you explore all the options available to you and help prepare you to discuss your pregnancy with your parents/partner/friends.

Parents/partners are welcome to join you in a follow-up meeting with your peer counsellor, if you both feel that that would be helpful for you.

If you decide to parent, First Place Options can offer resources to housing support. As well as connect you with other resources in the city that can help reduce some of the financial commitment of raising a child.

An unexpected pregnancy does not mean that you have to drop out of school. Our peer counsellors can help you explore how you can continue your education.

When facing an unexpected pregnancy, you may have a lot of questions or you may be feeling pressure from your partner or family. It is important to allow yourself the time to process through all of your options, so that you can make an informed decision regarding your pregnancy. The peer counsellors at First Place Options provide a safe, unpressurized environment for you to explore and be fully informed about all of your options.

The peer counsellors at First Place Options can explain the difference between ‘open’ and ‘closed’ adoptions, so that you can understand what adoption looks like today. If you want to explore the option of adoption, our peer counsellors can refer you to a ministry-licensed adoption agency, that will provide free adoption-related support to birth parent(s). Meeting with a ministry-licensed adoption agency does not mean that your decision to choose adoption is final. Your First Place Options peer counsellor will support you through this entire process.

Your girlfriend needs someone to talk to. You do as well. It is important not to pressure her. You can bring her in for a free and confidential laboratory quality urine pregnancy test. If she is pregnant, you both can talk with our peer counsellors together and or separately, to process through and be informed about all of your options. Our peer counsellors are here to support you both and will meet with you together or separately as many times as you need. All of our services are free and confidential.
